Blake Tollison Shelton is the first-born son of Karen Crawford, who grew up to be a famous country music singer and television personality. He never appeared in the series but was mentioned several times, most notably in "Blimp City".
Biography[]
Backstory[]
In 1975, a teenage Karen had sex with Richard Shelton and got pregnant with a baby, who she gave birth to in the school bathroom on her school’s prom night of ‘76. She refused to take care of this baby, leaving it lying in the toilet for Richard to fine and care of, himself. Richard would name the baby "Blake" and marry a woman named Dorothy, who would raise the child into adulthood with him. Blake Shelton would eventually grow up to be a famous singer and television personality.
In the Series[]
In "Karla", Gerald Fitzgerald read Us magazine and read about the relationship between Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani. He claimed that he always thought Blake Shelton could do better than her.
In "Blimp City", Karen brought up how she used to date Richard Shelton in high school and how he knocked her up, leading her to give birth to a baby in the bathroom on prom night. This baby would, of course, grow up to become Blake Shelton.
Trivia[]
- Karen giving birth to a kid at her high school prom is a reference to Melissa Drexler, a high school teen mom who gave birth to a kid at her prom in 1997 and disposed of the kid in the trashcan outside.
- Unlike the Melissa Drexler incident, the baby in question didn't die from parental neglect and there was no report of Karen getting into any trouble because of it.
- Because Karen gave birth to Blake Shelton at her high school prom, this means that she must have gone to high school in Ada, Oklahoma, before eventually moving to Paradise, Illinois.
- In "Karla", Fitz read about Blake Shelton's relationship with Gwen Stefani.
- Plothole: In "Good Jeans", Karen's birthday was revealed to be April 2nd, 1969. This means that she would have been 7 years old when she went to high school and gave birth to Blake Shelton, since he was born on June 18th, 1976.
